Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative
The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a partnership between Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont to set a mandatory limit or cap to reduce carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from power plants.
Rhode Island joined RGGI in 2007. The management of RGGI in Rhode Island is shared between RIDEM and OER. OER is responsible for the allocation and distribution of auction proceeds and the tracking and reporting of emissions.
