The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources works with Rhode Islanders to put smart energy solutions in place to make sure we have enough energy at stable prices we can afford. This is a critical task since the availability and cost of energy impact every aspect of Rhode Islanders’ daily lives.
The need for a variety of energy sources to serve our state has become more urgent with the sharp and unpredictable rises in energy costs and concerns about environmental impacts and reliance on imported fuel over the last decade.
Because our small, densely settled state has few energy sources within its borders (link to EIA, link to ISO-NE RI Energy profile) we all need to do our part to secure our energy independence by increasing our supply options to include energy efficiency and renewable energy and to rely less on oil, gas, coal and nuclear energy that are produced outside our state.
Every time we install an energy saving device, weatherize a building or adjust the thermostat to use less energy we increase our energy independence. Our investment in offshore wind and other renewable energy will pay off in electricity for our state that comes from clean renewable sources, reduce our dependence on energy from outside sources and keep our energy dollars working in RI to build our economic independence.
