Energy Programs for Rhode Island Cities and Towns

The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources (RIOER) is working with each one of Rhode Island's 39 cities and towns to make Rhode Island more energy efficient. This is done primarily through through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG). The EECBG program contains the following initiatives for local government:

  • Grants to create municipal strategic energy plans

  • Base grants to each city and town to deliver $9.78 per person in each for energy projects to be done by municipalities

    (Purchase orders and contracts have been sent to the chief official of each city and town)

  • Funds to engage Energy Service Companies to establish energy performance contracts, which make energy efficiency improvements that are funded by future energy savings

  • Competitive grants for cities and towns and multi-municipal projects The deadline for competitive grants has closed.
